Dolls are simply magical. They speak to our hearts…their expressions and their quiet presence…like a little friend. In childhood, I applied human feelings to inanimate objects, and I believe there is a universal appeal and magic with dolls and small creatures that so many people are drawn to.
For me, creating small dolls and trolls is so personal. I feel each one come to life as I finish the head and face, and especially the eyes. Their little personalities start to shine and guide me to the finished design. My greatest hope is that they will be well-loved, and even carried about…a little friend to be spoken to and confided in, and eventually passed on.
Materials
Sustainable and eco-friendly materials are very important to me. For my dolls I use as many upcycled materials as possible. I also use textile scraps for stuffing and tiny works. I use vegan products for all new materials. Animal based materials, like cashmere and wool, are collected from thrift stores, eBay, and friends who pass them along to me. They are always upcycled, and I believe in not wasting items that would otherwise be discarded. For this reason, I no longer create products from new animal based materials.
Please note; my upcycled wool and cashmere dolls are specifically made for adult collectors through special order only. Once in awhile I make a cashmere doll for re-sale. There is wire inside of the legs, arms, and neck that is not child safe. Additionally, although they are well made, they are not meant for everyday play and the wear and tear that occurs with this type of use.
Tiny trolls, moss folk, and tiny folk are not for re-sale, but directions for making them yourself will be available in the near future. Later this year (2026), I will be publishing digital paper dolls and stories that will go with all of the natur folk.
